Registered Users will be granted access to certain registered, password-protected areas of the Site. Visitors to the Site will not be granted access to all areas of the Site.
Please read the following Policy to understand how we collect Account Information from you, use the information, and protect the information. This Policy does not extend to anything that is inherent in the operation of the Internet and therefore beyond our control, and is not to be applied in any manner contrary to applicable law or government regulation.
If at any time you object to our use of your Account Information, you may discontinue your account with DCF by submitting a written request to the DCF administrator who will in turn remove all user access to information in the restricted account databases. Upon such discontinuation, your Account Information may remain on our archived database and records; however, none of your Account Information will thereafter be provided to you or to third parties, except in accordance with provisions under the headings “Information that we automatically gather through your use of our site,” “Aggregate and anonymous information,” and “When We May Be Forced to Disclose,” below.
We encourage you to correct and update your Account Information by updating your user profile on a regular basis. You may correct your Account Information at any time by logging into your online user account. You have the right to request access to the personal information we record about you. You also have the right to request corrections, amendments and deletions of any of your personal information in our possession. To make these changes, please email Donors Cure at email@example.com.
In your use of the DCF site, you will be asked to provide certain Account Information. Some of the requested Account Information will be required, and some will be optional. Other information will be generated automatically as you use the Site, for example, a history of donations and project pages visited. We will not disclosure any of this Account Information unless you authorize us to do so, except in connection with the services provided through the DCF sites or as otherwise explained in this Policy.
When you register or update your account with DCF, you will provide the contact information that we will use to set up or update your account, such as your name and email address. You will also provide additional information that we will use for security purposes, such as to authenticate your identity each time you log into DCF, including one or more of the following: a user name, a password, and responses to security questions (collectively, your “Access Credentials”). Once you create an account, you are then free to donate to any of the research projects featured on the DCF Site.
Universities, Academic Medical Centers and Research Institutions:
Universities, academic medical centers, and research institutions, which are governmental entities or nonprofit tax exempt public charities recognized pursuant to IRC section 501(c)(3) (each an “Institution”) may register with DCF in order to have one or more research projects of a researcher at such Institution featured on the Site. When an Institution registers with DCF, it will be given an Institution administrator account. Pursuant to such registration, the Institution grants to DCF permission to use a logo of the Institution that has been approved by the Institution for use in connection with the DCF Site. DCF will obtain information from the Institution when it registers for an account, including: current projects at the university, pending/expired projects, your entity’s Research Contact and his/her name, position, email address, and phone number, your entity’s address, as well as any other information which you may wish to volunteer in a “Notes” section. However, DCF will not be obligated to abide by any restrictions in the Notes section unless it is directly notified and a duly authorized representative of DCF has accepted such restriction by writing acknowledging compliance back to you.
If you are a researcher at an Institution that has registered with DCF, you will be permitted to create your own researcher account. You will provide your name, e-mail address, and Access Credentials. Once the researcher have been authenticated and confirmed by DCF, the Researcher may make a profile. You will provide DCF with the following information for your Profile: your name, position, headshot (if desired), a biography (400 word limit), and your curriculum vitae. Once registered, you may submit your research proposal(s) for review by DCF to determine whether the proposal shall be accepted and your research project featured on the DCF Site. DCF will require the following information in in connection with the submission of your research project: project name, a short synopsis of the research project, your project goals (250 word limit), the importance of your research (250 word limit), your budget (250 word limit), a detailed description of your research project (1,200 word limit), and the duration of the project (this will be capped at 6 months). DCF reserves the right to request additional information from you to evaluate the submission of your research proposal. DCF reserves the right to decline to include your research proposal on the Site for any reason whatsoever.
DCF collects Account Information from Users when you register for an account or when you use services provided by DCF. We use this Account Information only for the specific purpose specified at the time you input such information. For example, by using various features of any DCF site, we may need to collect your name, zip code, licensure, certifications, address, IP addresses, grant awards, job title, employment affiliations (both current and former), number of times donating to DCF projects and any comments related to this data.
We may also require other information for tracking or verifying compliance with our policies, abiding by federal, state, and local laws, and for editorial and feedback solicitation purposes. In addition, from time to time, we may use your Account Information for new, unanticipated uses, such as notification of new services, announcements and general communications. If our information practices materially change at some time in the future, we will post such changes to the website before we use your data for these new purposes, in accordance with the paragraph captioned “Periodic Changes to this Policy” above.
We do not sell or rent our user’s Account Information or personally identifiable information to third parties; nor do we send any of your Account Information to our advertisers without your consent. DCF may share User’s personally identifiable information with partnering Institutions and Universities registered with DCF who must keep that information confidential.
Our system automatically collects information about the areas Visitors frequent on our website. We may use this aggregate information to understand how our Visitors and Users as a group use the Services we provide so that we can improve our website. In addition, we may create Anonymous Information records from users’ Account Information by excluding information (such as names) that makes the information personally identifiable to you. We may use this Anonymous Information to analyze inquiry, request and usage patterns so that we may enhance Services and the Site. We reserve the right to use and disclose Anonymous Information to third parties in our discretion. “Anonymous Information” means information that is not associated with or linked to your Account Information. Anonymous Information does not permit the identification of individual persons.
Cookies: a cookie is a small amount of data that is sent to and stored on your computer by a website that you visit. Cookies enable user registration, login, and personalization, among other things. A cookie cannot identify you directly, but it can identify your computer. Your computer’s Internet browser is most likely set up to accept cookies automatically. If you would like to disable this feature you may do so by adjusting the options or preferences in your browser. However, by doing so, you will lose some of the convenience of the DCF web pages.
IP Addresses: an IP address is a number that is automatically assigned to your computer. DCF collects IP addresses for the purposes of system administration and to audit the use of our site. Each time you log onto our site and each time you request one of our pages, our server logs your IP address. Although we log your session with us, we will not normally link your IP address to anything that can enable us to identify you. However, we can and will use IP addresses to identify a user when we feel it is necessary to enforce compliance with our rules or terms of service or to protect our site, users, or others.
Computer information: the DCF website will automatically gather information about the computer or operating system you are using such as the error messages you may have received. This information allows DCF to better fit our Services to your individual needs and to diagnose problems that you may be having with our website. Your Access Credentials serve as unique identifiers to give you access to special areas of our website intended for registered users.
Geographic location: we may gather information about your geographical location by determining where your computer is located. We do this in order to provide either localized service or to provide faster service by sending your server localized content.
We use Visitor information for our own internal purposes including recording and analyzing, and to advice you of updates to our Services and information relating to your use of this Site.
We also provide you with the opportunity to receive (or to opt out of receiving) email communications of information, including newsletters, which we think may be of interest to you.
To the extent necessary to provide you with the Services on the DCF Site, we may provide your Account Information to third party contractors who work on behalf of or with DCF to provide you with such Services, to help us communicate with you or to maintain the DCF Site. However, these contractors do not have any independent right to share this information.
We may disclose Account Information or Visitor information in special cases when we believe in good faith that such disclosure is necessary to identify, contact, or bring legal action against someone who may be causing injury to or interference with (either intentionally or unintentionally) our rights or property or the rights or property of our users or others. We also may disclose Account Information or Visitor information when we believe in good faith that the law, legal process, or a lawful investigation requires it.
The importance of security is a top priority for us. We exercise great care in providing secure transmission of your information from your Internet connection to our servers. We also take great care to protect Account Information off-line. All of your data is handled only by authorized personnel, and our database servers have a backup system to prevent loss of data. Unfortunately, no data transmission over the Internet can be guaranteed to be 100% secure, and we will not be held liable for should a third party illegally obtain your Account Information. While we have made a great effort to protect your Account Information, we cannot ensure or warrant the security of any information you transmit to us, and you do so at your own risk.
